you are the ocean in a drop

“you are the ocean in a drop” was painted after I traveled to Miami. I’m always inspired deeply by nature, and the ocean is one of my favorite natural artists. I layered deep mixes of acrylic indigos and blues to mimic the depths of the ocean. I often find comfort in the similarities between us and the earth, reminding myself that darkness can be beautiful too. I remember sitting on the beach years ago, sand grazing against my skin and tears welling up in my eyes, wondering if I would ever be okay. This time, tears welled up as I realized that I always will be. Just as I have sat at the shore before, she will greet me and remind me that I am free. I always walk away from the sea feeling better than when I arrived. This painting has the same effect on me.
